Relationship Therapy
I work with couples, friends and other important relationships. We can explore how you can be together in more satisfying ways and I can support you in having difficult but important conversations.

Couples and Relationship Therapy
Couples therapy with me is an opportunity to focus on your relationship. As a Gestalt Therapist I will work with you to raise awareness of how you relate with each other and to explore other possibilities.
We all develop assumptions and beliefs about relationships and ourselves in relationship from our early life experience. These inform who and how we are and what we bring in our relating with others. Raising awareness of these, and how they play out in the present moment can create the potential for new choices and ways of experiencing ourselves and the people close to us.

Some examples of relationship difficulties that might be supported in couples therapy include:
-
Recurring conflicts that feel like they don't move forward or change
-
Impacts of affairs and betrayals
-
Parenting difficulties
-
Navigating relationships with extended family
-
Dissatisfaction in the relationship and feelings of stuckness
-
Struggles with expressing needs and wants
-
Challenges in moving through different life stages, e.g. making commitments together, new parenthood, empty nest experiences, caring for elderly/ill parents, retirement, death of loved ones
-
Difficulties with sex and intimacy

In working with these, or the issues you might bring, we will pay attention to the difficulties themselves, how they get talked about together and their meanings within the wider context of your life together and shared and individual histories.

Courageous Conversations
Relationship Therapy is not just for couples. Our lives are populated by many important relationships and our ways of being and how we make meaning of our experiences can shape our friendships and working lives.
Fears of rejection, conflict and struggles with power are just some of the themes that can linger in the background and get in the way of more satisfying connection.
I offer a 3 session block for friends, business owners and other close non-couple relationships to explore a current difficulty and find new ways to be with it.
Practical Information
Investment
My fee for couples and relationship therapy is £85 per session, including the initial consultation, and can be paid in cash or via bank transfer. For clients working on an ongoing long term basis I invoice for payment monthly.
Session length and frequency
Sessions with me are 1hr and 15mins long, at a frequency we can agree together, usually weekly or fortnightly at the same time. For ongoing couples therapy I suggest an initial block of 6 sessions with a review at session 4 to determine a way forward. A shorter block of 3 sessions is available for friends, business partners or other relationships to have support in talking through a problem.
Location
I work from my consulting room on Frederick Street in central Edinburgh. This is close to the Princes Street tram stop and well served by buses. My room is on the 3rd floor of a traditional townhouse so unfortunately is unsuitable for those with access requirements. I also offer a small number of online therapy spaces for those outside of Edinburgh or access difficulties.
